The Supreme Court just ruled that a copyright infringement suit against MGM and their release of the movie, Raging Bull, could move forward. That movie is now more than 30 years old. The normal statute of limitations on a copyright infringement case is 3 years, but the start date can be renewed with every new digital release or other kind of re-release. But now, since the Supreme Court is allowing this decades-old case to move forward, they are effectively removing any time limit, saying that anyone can sue for copyright infringement, no matter how old the work might be. That is very dangerous for many reasons. The Resident discusses.
