HINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXMI) – James Taylor calls the farm-house that has been in his family nearly a century his ‘party house.’

He says what started out as a birthday party for a friend on Saturday night quickly grew to more than 2,000 people.

He said it was also a goodbye party for him before he leaves for California.

“People could have been laying out in my yard dead this morning,” he said. “I’m glad the police were here and the ambulances.”

With two DJ’s, a fire thrower, go-go dancers and strippers, the 20-year-old says he believes he successfully threw the largest party ever to hit West Michigan.

Unfortunately, the party had its costs.

Authorities say there were at least six drug overdoses and the reported sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman.

“I didn’t force anything down anyone’s throat,” Taylor told WXMI. “I didn’t make anyone stay here until 7 a.m. or 11 a.m. or whenever it is that everyone finally left. I didn’t make this kid pass out on my floor. People wanted to be here. That was their decision.”

Taylor says his address was given out to people around 4 p.m., which was enough time for thousands to come flocking to the farm-house.

Taylor admits that he is responsible for the mess but says he didn’t know anyone at the party was underage.

“Any time you point at someone, you got three fingers pointing back at you, and if you are a parent that’s got a 14-year-old child that’s been able to be at my house all night, and according to the police, there was a lot of them here. So, I think some parents should do some reflections on their parenting before they start getting mad at me,” he said.

He adds that he offered to let the 2,000 guests stay the night so no one drove home intoxicated.

As for any possible charges, Taylor said he’s expecting to see officers in the next couple of days.

Rave organizers: ‘Not ashamed of it at all’
HINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The young men who organized what authorities are calling a “rave” in rural Mecosta County during which several people were injured and there was alleged a sexual assault said they don’t regret it — though they said they’re sorry people got hurt.

The party, which started Saturday night and lasted into early Sunday, drew more than 2,000 people – many under the age of 21, authorities said — to an old farm on 40th Avenue near 5 Mile Road in Hinton Township, west of Blanchard.

Seven people were hurt during the event — some from what may have been alcohol and drug overdoses. One man broke his collar bone. One woman reported being sexually assaulted in a vehicle. Authorities are investigating.

MECOSTA, MI — A man who told police he had just come from the rave party that attracted thousands Saturday night crashed into a Mecosta residence on the way home, totaling his vehicle and causing thousands in damages, authorities say.

Michigan State Police troopers responded at 3:39 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, to East Main Street in Mecosta and found a vehicle had crashed into the front porch deck of a home.

The driver appeared to have driven off the north side of the street before going airborne and hitting a ditch, state police authorities said in a statement.

The vehicle continued at a “moderate” speed and crashed into the front porch deck of the home before coming to a stop. No one was inside the house at the time.

“It was estimated that the drunk driver caused a few thousand dollars in damage to the home and totaled the suspect vehicle,” authorities said.

Troopers spoke with three adult males inside the vehicle. They were not injured but appeared to be intoxicated, according to the police statement.
